The fall colors seemed brighter this year. Or maybe I just always forget, in the intervening months, what October looks like. It's just past peak now:

And even in November, new surprises in the garden! Today I found these wee broccoli heads. Now, what can I make that uses exactly 1/3 cup of broccoli?

The collard transplants survived, and seem to be very healthy.

...and we're still eating carrots and chard.
I assuaged my grief over the squash crop failure by buying an enormous ugly blue hubbard and a neon orange ambercup from a farmer's stand up in Frederick County last weekend. It may take 2 weeks to eat that hubbard, but for now, it's worth it to have such magnificent specimens presiding over the kitchen.
