Carrie here, reporting as usual from zone 7. This is the second year I've had a veggie garden (here's last year), and I can't say my thumb's grown any greener over the winter.

As of now (June 10) things are still wee-- I got a late start. But I'll post updates.

People are often surprised when I tell them I have a garden at work. This photo should prove it! It actually works out nicely because this spot gets way more sun than my yard at home, plus I can weed a little bit at lunchtime most days.

The garden plot next to mine seems to be unclaimed-- those are not my weeds!

basil peppers

Basil was looking droopy, so he got a teeny noose. Peppers: Sweet banana in the front and "King of the North" in the back. The latter is some kind of cold-weather Canuk pepper, but it's the only one the lady at the farmer's market had.

tomato

tomatoes

Last year I found the tomatoes the most interesting to grow, so I upped the population from 4 to 6 plants, and included more cherry tomatoes. I'm hoping these will produce more tomatoes, more quickly, than the big-tomato varieties I grew last year.

On the left is "Green Zebra" which should be fun. On the right you can see 3 plants, but the one in front is "Golden Nugget" which are yellow cherry tomatoes. I also have Sungold, Roma (boring!), Sweet 100, and Celebrity.

beet! cuke

The fuzzy photo shows beets! Just poking up from the ground. I just discovered that I LOVE beets, and this variety is golden rather than stain-inducing red. The second photo is cucumber (one of 4). I killed the first batch, so these guys are from the second round. I planted them as seeds.

sunflower baby

Fleurs du Mal. Marigolds (obvy!) and a tiny sunflower poking up out of the clay.

squash

Here's my nomination for cute overload. It's a saffron squash (a yellow summer squash). It's all "ehn! EHN! Must. reach. sun!"

zucchini

Zucchini! In just 10 days, this baby grew from a 2-leaf seedling to this size. Uh oh.

OK, that's all for now. Check in again later in the summer!
