July 23, 2007:

Do you need zucchini? Seriously. If you live anywhere in the bi-state-and-one-district-area and want a zucchini, come and get it.

In other news, I just can't get enough of these sunflowers. They are unspeakably beautiful.

sunflower with pollenator

The 4 sunflowers in my garden are always consorting with the bees (see the one on the photo above?). Next time you sit down to eat, remember to say a prayer of gratitude to pollinators everywhere. They are out there working hard every day, making everything we eat possible.

sweet 100 tomatoes

Last time, I ranted about how the tomatoes are not ripening. Well, I got some Sweet 100 and Sungold cherry tomatoes today. Just enough to augment my lunch.

celebrity tomatoes

On the left is Sweet 100 again. It grows these long bunches of tiny tomatoes. This could be fun. On the right is the celebrity tomato plant-- tons of tomatoes right now, but taking forever to ripen. No, I don't know why the picture is blue.

bell peppers

"King of the North" bell peppers. I guess my soil isn't good for peppers for some reason. Last year I only got 2 or 3 peppers out of 6 plants (!). This year, I finally have a few popping out, but I don't have high hopes.

cucumber or apple?

Finally, the lemon cucumbers. Yes, it's supposed to be yellow and round (like a lemon, though they don't taste "lemony") but I'm not sure how you know when it is ripe. Anyone know?

'til next time, vegg-o-philes!
