August 3, 2007:

I have only one pumpkin on the vine, but it's the most sincere pumpkin ever. It appeared last weekend, and it's about the size of a baseball.

I've been complaining about how I can't grow peppers, but it's not entirely true. On the left is the poblano. On the right is the sweet banana pepper. The fruit is growing directly off the main stem, even right where it meets the ground. Just...weird.

Bell peppers...

Finally, a big tomato! I have this one, a green zebra, and orange and yellow cherry tomatoes in a big bowl on my kitchen counter right now. Good times.

Basil, flowering now (and marigold in the background!). Last year I froze the extra basil and ate it all winter. Nice to have something from the garden in February.

Cucumbers. I picked about 2 dozen on Thursday (literally), and there will be more by Monday. They taste very good -- very tender and not a trace of bitterness -- but really, how many can a person eat? I'd give them away on the street but so far nobody believes me when I say they are cucumbers!

Lastly, sunflowers. The favorite of bees and this farmer alike.
